
# 14 - Congaree River-
Rated: Easy to Moderate
3 - 7 miles, one-way
There are over 10 miles of the exciting Congaree
River in Lexington County! From its origin at the
confluence of the Broad and Saluda Rivers near
downtown Columbia, to quickly turning remote,
the Congaree has a lot to offer for kayaking,-
-canoeing and fishing. You're nearly guaranteed-
-to see large wading birds, and maybe deer on its-
-banks, so bring your camera!-

Difficulty: Easy to moderate, depending on water level and current.
Distance: 3 - 7 miles, one-way.
Time: 2 - 6 hours.
Crowds: Light.
Put In / Take Out: Thomas Newman Public Boat Landing, Granby Landing Road, Cayce,
SC 29033: GPS: 33.949111, -81.029556 or 33°56'56.8"N 81°01'46.4"W. Paddle either direction.
Paddle either direction! In Lexington County, the Congaree extends 3.5 miles north (heading to the
left), and 6.7 miles south (heading to the right) of the boat landing.
Fees/Permits: None.
Current: Yes! There is always a current flowing down river, southeast. The flow can be strong after
storms or when there are water releases from Lake Murray. It is not advised to enter the river if the
cubic feet per second (CFS) is above 2,600. To find the water release, CLICK HERE.
Precautions: This is a river paddle. Be prepared for moving water and/or strong currents! Use common
sense. If you see fast moving water, stay out of the river.
