Goat Island is a lot of fun! Where does it get its name?
The island is shaped like a goat (see photo below)!
This island has a lot to offer. From sandy beaches, to
camping, to a 19th century cemetery, there's something
for every adventurer. It's also a great place to visit in-
-all but the summer months - you'll avoid the crowds!

Difficulty: Moderate.
Distance: 5.8 miles, round-trip.
Time: minimum of 2 - 3 hours to enjoy this paddle.
Crowds: Light. Best to paddle during the week to avoid the most number of motorized boats. It's
recommended to avoid the summer months; Goat Island can get crowded.
Put In / Take Out: Boat Ramp at Lake Murray Dam / Lake Murray Dam North Recreation Area, 2102 N.

Current: Negligible, generally a southeast direction.
Precautions: Winds above 10 MPH can be tough for a paddler on Lake Murray. There is a lot of open
water for wind to intensify and cause waves/whitecaps. Be mindful of fast moving motorized boats and
use your paddle to signal your location.
Water Level: For this Blueway paddle trail, water level is not as much of a concern.
